World Music String Workshops

Excite your string players with Celtic & world music   

karen and Jacko (Fiddlesticks) as experienced tutors are in much demand for to take String Workshops throughout New Zealand and Australia, arranging all the music performed.
They work with school orchestras teaching them about the exciting world of Celtic and World Music, working the players up to a performance level.
The Workshop can be tailored to any level required for the workshops and concludes with a performance by the Orchestra and Fiddlesticks.  
Karen has tutored at Susuki Violin Camps and School Music Camps taking String and Rhythm workshops and is a Strings and Ensemble Teacher for Primary and Secondary Schools.

Fiddlesticks are also available as guest tutors at your School Music Camp, taking the Strings for an experience of Celtic and /or World Music.

Chopping, The Latest Craze

This is the latest craze to come out of America, developed by Darrel Anger
Chopping is a very cool percussive technique for fiddles, using chords and creating rhythmic grooves with the bow.

We will teach a chopping groove with a piece called “Chopagroove” .Rhythmic Grooves are set up as an accompaniment to the melody.

Cajun Fiddle

A wild exciting style of American fiddling, heavily reliant on rhythmic bowing.

A set of tunes put together in the traditional way,
Air--------------------------Scottish Air in Three parts      
Jig--------------------------Irish Jig the distinctive Irish Rhythmic hallmark      
Reel------------------------Cape Breton Reel

African Rhythm

First taught as a Body Rhythm
This uses a 6/8 pattern, used within a three part ¾  round.
We will then  transfer that rhythm onto the string instruments.
 Layering several simple African melodies on top.    
We offer our Electric Violins for two of the main melodies layered on top

6/8 Jig Time Becomes Reel Time

A simple jig (6/8) is taught and that same tune is turned into a Reel (2/4)
A technique often used by Celtic Musicians
It will feature a soloist on Electric Violin with String Orchestra
    (Fiddlesticks will provide the Electric Violin)

American Fiddle

2/4 The Fast and the Furious.
The Orchestra takes on the roll of a Bluegrass Band,
All sections of the orchestra play
1) the "Tune"
2) providing Back-up while
3) Each group takes a "Solo"
